Accounting Technology Programs in Massachusetts

Educational Information:

An Associate of Applied Business in Accounting Technology is a two-year program that prepares students for entry-level careers in accounting. This degree may enable you to secure a position providing technical administrative support such as operating accounting software and posting debits and credits to accounts.

Licensing Information:

Although Massachusetts does not enforce mandatory licensing guidelines for accounting technicians, many people choose to seek additional credentials. The Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) credential is available through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). You are required to pass nine of the 10 exams for official certification. The topics covered include information technology, management and finance topics. The ACCA offers the exam twice a year. You are allowed to complete the first four sections from your home computer.

As of May 2020, accounting professionals earned an average salary of $88,830 in Massachusetts. Between 2018 and 2028, the number of accountant and auditor jobs in the state is projected to increase by 3.7%, which is slightly less than the national average growth rate of 4% during this period. About 3,850 annual job openings in this field are expected during this ten-year period leading to 2028 due to a combination of new job growth, retirements, and natural job turnover.
