Accounting Schools in Louisiana
The state of Louisiana has tons of private and public colleges and universities with accounting programs. The three largest schools with accounting programs in the state are public universities: Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The accounting programs usually offer a Bachelor of Science (B.S.), a Master of Science (M.S.), and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in accounting. Some programs also provide assistance in finding internships for students. A few universities provide students with an accounting lab, where they can strengthen their accounting skills with accounting projects, and student organizations. Most teachers and professors within the accounting program includes faculty members who are Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) explains that accountants work for companies and individuals by reviewing their financial statements and preparing tax documentation. A CPA is a highly skilled accountant that often owns their own accounting firm and can make direct filings to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Many accountants may work independently, directly in the finance or accounting departments of a business, or accountants may work for accounting firms that exclusively handle the accounting statements of other companies and individuals.
The BLS states that the median salary of all accountants in the United States calculated to $61,690 a year. The bottom 10% of accountant earners made $38,940 a year, while the top 10% of accountant workers earned $106,880 a year. The BLS calculates that there will be a 16% growth in employment for all accountants, about as fast as average for other occupations. Much of this will be from new regulations that will require firms to hire more accountants. As of May 2012, the BLS found that there are 12,850 accountants in Louisiana who earn $62,680 a year.
